Webb Simpson – Not a One Hit Wonder!
Had he been a part of the lineup at The Open Championship last week, there is no doubt that the American golfer Webb Simpson would have teed off as one of the favorites for the tournament. But he thought it wouldn’t be a good idea for him to be in another continent while his wife was expecting their second child and so, he decided to stay back at home. During his very short stint as a professional golfer on the PGA Tour, Simpson has proved himself to be a very good decision maker.
Having earned his Tour card after the end of the 2009 season, Simpson has seen three titles on Tour and has finished within the top 10 in various prestigious tournaments as well. Simpson is considered to be a master of the long iron and he has demonstrated that fact at various events. But his biggest asset is the fact that he can remain calm under pressure.
Webb Simpson is hardly jubilated by success or dejected by failure, and that mental ability has translated to an almost enigmatic persona on the course. He has had a T14 in the US Open last year and a T-16 in The Open Championship before winning his first Major championship at the US Open in 2012. And here in lies the question that seems to be bothering the 27 year old.
After a win at the US Open, one is expected to win the title at any Major championship and with the US Open taking place at the Olympic Club next year; he will undoubtedly start off as the favorite. But there are still doubts whether Webb Simpson can ever win a Major title, but with the form and mental toughness that he is showing, good things are surely lying in wait for him.
